Typing
Use your Japanese online to remember what you've learned and to learn new things that you won't find in textbooks. The Internet makes it easy.
If you've never been here before, it's about time you learned: 4chan rules the Internet. Japanese media and pop culture features heavily in many of the forums. It's probably the best place to bring yourself up-to-date on modern Japanese. (Remember, it is never smart to share any personal information on a message board, especially not this one -- 4chan is the home base of Anonymous.)

An online community of language learners from around the globe. Here you can write in Japanese and have it read and corrected by a native speaker. You can also help others learn English (or whatever languages you speak fluently) by correcting what they've written. This is an excellent place to get someone to check over your homework. :3

If you aren't too picky about the site design, this is a great place to find Japanese e-pen pals. Many of them are learning English and want to find someone to practice with; they'll send you messages in their best English, and you can send them messages in English or try using some of your Japanese skills. There's no pressure!

Reading
Reading, especially authentic text (i.e. what Japanese people read every day, not the examples in the textbook) is fantastic exercise for both your language skills and your overall conceptual decoding abilities. That is, reading makes you smarter all around. And yes, reading manga counts, even when it's already translated (the cultural content and some lingual elements are still there)... but it's ten times better if you're reading in Japanese.
Writing
Even in the age of digitalia, the postal service is still wildly popular in Japan. You can use any of several online sites to make new friends in Japan and exchange letters, postcards, and packages overseas.
A great resource if you (like me) are a fiend for postcards. You can adjust your settings to accept addresses only from countries outside your own (the USA, in our case), or from everywhere, but you can't (yet) set the site to give you only Japanese addresses. So... well, I guess this isn't the best way to find a Japanese pen pal, but it's good for leads.

Speaking + Listening
I know that you know what Skype is. Don't be afraid to Skype with Japanese language partners; actual speaking and listening practice is the best way to become fluent. Really. Yes, I know it's awkward when you misunderstand (or can't understand) what's being said to you, but swallow your anxiety and just talk. It's okay. It's how learning works.
VOIP technology lets you talk, text, and view anyone, anywhere in the world through a computer. Software and account are free -- the only reason to have a paid account is for calling from a computer to a telephone. Use it well!
